What’s Wrong with this Picture?

I’ve been watching the progress of the work they’ve been doing in the park on the way to the station every morning. I first noticed it when they started off in fine style by chopping down half the trees around the sports pitch, presumably because they were in the way. So I was happy to see this morning that they were now replacing the murdered trees with nice shiny new ones, although I would have preferred it if they could have just left the trees where they were in the first place and worked around them.

But there you have it, landscaping Lambeth style:

1. Chop down all the trees

2. Resurface sports pitch

3. Plant new trees.

Does this remind you of anything? How about:

1. Build enormous speed bump

2. Repair enormous speed bump

3. Remove enormous speed bump

The year-end-spend is a wonderful thing …

  1. It sure is crazy! There’s a hive of activity at my workplace making sure those last pennies disappear. Well, they have to justify the increased council tax don’t they! Oh yes, don’t get me started…

  2. Don’t get you started? Sounds like it may already be too late!

  3. For reasons klnown only to theselves, Chelmsford Borough Council have had all the bus stops dug up and relaid, new signs put up. yet the big pot hole at the end of my road will have to wait until next year.

  4. This is how councils the world over work. Don’t ask me why, don’t ask the council either or you will be there all week.

  5. Ah but, they’ve met their tree planting targets for the year.

  6. LLD – try reporting it to Fill That Hole?

David – there speaks the weary voice of experience …

Sarah – maybe what they need is not-chopping-trees-down targets? Lambeth are certainly rather too ready with the chainsaw…

  7. ah – lambeth. how i don’t miss it!

  8. Yes, but those Lambeth people have got nothing on Taunton – http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1610307.ece
